Google issued an urgent warning of a powerful spying virus, designed to track location and record audio. The spyware is capable of infecting both Android and iPhone users.
Some people with Android devices are in danger of getting Hermit – an app which spies on you and can be used by foreign state-sponsored groups.
If Hermit is installed on your device, it can log your calls and messages, record conversations, read emails, and access pictures and video on your device. It can also grant itself more privileges on your phone.
If opened, the link will download a virus onto your device. Google believes the actors worked with the target’s ISP to disable their mobile data once they clicked the link.
Once the attacker disables their access, they send an SMS to the target that asks them to install an application on their cell phone to resolve the connectivity issue.
Apple is working on a fix for the security breaches that resulted in attackers gaining access to personal information on Google. Google has found victims of malware in Italy and Kazakhstan.
